Lateral moves for lawyers at every level have been on the rise post-pandemic, and don’t appear to be slowing down—and that includes for young lawyers. While there are numerous resources and advice articles for attorneys navigating an individual lateral move, there is far less guidance for associates about how to best navigate a move to a new firm as part of an existing group. Group lateral moves can be a relatively smooth transition when the group transitions with its core practice and clients, not to mention a built-in collegiality. However, there are challenges—and rewards—to contemplate.
